Lovely Leaves

Image
Leaves were a theme this week.  We wrapped up our study of The Little Yellow Leaf by Carin Berger by creating collage pictures.  Thursday we collected leaves for a Mystery Science activity.  2nd graders learned about animal classification in Science lab and completed the Unit 2 assessment in math with flying colors.

Outstanding October

We took our monarch study to the Science lab this week.  2nd graders were able to look at butterfly wings under the microscope. I wonder what amazing things they know about those clever wings.  We studied The Little Yellow Leaf in reading , learning about change and how having a friend makes change easier. We are working on math facts in Unit 2, discovering how knowing doubles and 10 facts can help with fact we don't know.    Check out the Read-a-thon link on the link page if you need to sign up and misplace your info sheet.  The conference sign up page is there too. Enjoy a wonderful long weekend!

Thanks to all our families who came to Open House.  2nd graders were super proud to share their classroom and hard work.  We are slowly settling into our routines, finishing up our first Wit and Wisdom book in Mod 1 and completing Unit 1 in math(We rocked the assessment!).  Last week we released our monarch butterfly, sadly only that one reached the adult stage.  Ms. Brill introduced us to the garden this week and we met our Williams Science helper Emily.   Check the Link page for conference sign-up if you didn't have a chance to sign up at Open House.  Be sure to check backpacks they have lots of completed work, a book order and the info on photos. Our First Full Week

This week our caterpillars became chrysalis.  We observed changes in the chrysalis and are waiting for the butterflies to emerge.  2nd graders worked so hard on the beginning of the year Fast Bridge math and reading assessments.  They created a class number scroll all the way to 1,000 and played some new math games.  We are reading and writing about the changes in Fall.
